Stunning Revelations: UN Archives Expose Secret UFO Encounters

As we approach the International Day of Human Space Flight on April 12, this #ThrowbackThursday has provided a perfect moment to revisit the UN’s engagement with the space age. The journey includes everything from discussions on unidentified flying objects (UFOs) to hosting astronauts shortly after their lunar adventures.

UN Features Prominently in NASA’s Interstellar Symphony

Before the 1977 launch, NASA approached the UN for contributions to an extraordinary project—the creation of the ‘Golden Record’. This album, destined for the cosmos, starts with a message from the then-UN Secretary-General, conveying hopes for peace and goodwill to any interstellar listeners. At the UN Headquarters, visitors can view a replica of this Golden Record and marvel at other space-related exhibits, including a real lunar fragment.

Bill Nye, renowned as “The Science Guy” and leader of the Planetary Society, offers an engaging walkthrough of the Golden Record’s contents and its enduring importance, highlighting how our fascination with the cosmos can fuel efforts to protect our own Planet

Historical Deliberations on UFOs at the UN

Prompted by Grenada, the General Assembly explored the UFO phenomenon during its 32nd and 33rd sessions in the late 1970s. On the agenda was the proposition to establish a dedicated UN body for UFO research and information dissemination. Although the resolutions proposed by Grenada did not proceed to a vote, the Assembly did pass resolutions urging member states to collaborate nationally on the scientific study of extraterrestrial life and UFOs, and to share their findings with the UN.

Astronauts Celebrated at the UN After Moon Landing

The narrative of space exploration at the UN wouldn’t be complete without recalling the visit of U.S. astronauts in August 1969, fresh from their historic Moon walk. Their arrival at the UN Headquarters was a significant moment, celebrated with great enthusiasm

This glimpse into the UN’s archival stories from the space era underscores its ongoing role in fostering international cooperation in the final frontier.
